Carlisle U-19s secured their first T20 county championship with victory over Egremont at Edenside in a 2017 finals day held over from last season.
Carlisle made it to the final with a comfortable win over Kendal in the first semi final, while Egremont edged out Furness in the later start.
Ironically, the final was reduced to ten overs a side by rain, but a dominant performance with the bat from James Lythgoe earned Carlisle a nine wicket win, with captain Ben Davidson lifting the trophy in front of the pavilion.
Carlisle began the day with a comfortable, eight wicket win over Kendal who were bowled out for just 69, with wickets shared throughout the team.
In reply, Carlisle made light work of the chase, with James Lythgoe top scoring on 34 as the home team made it to the final.
It was a waiting game to find out who their opponents would be as Furness and Egremont took to the field.
Batting first, Furness were indebted to Isaac Whitehall's 30 in what would prove to be a disappointing total of 87-5 as the west Cumbrians ran out seven wicket winners. Marcus Stables ended unbeaten on 51.
As drizzle set in, the final was reduced to just ten overs a side to ensure there would be a winner on the day.
Batting first, Egremont were under pressure from a young Carlisle bowling attack as they made 66-4 from their allotted overs.
A tricky total proved to be of little concern to in-form batsman, James Lythgoe, who made an unbeaten and dominant 48 to see the home team over the line.
It rounded off a magnificent day of cricket with some top young talent on display from all teams.
Lets hope this year's contest is every bit as competitive. Well done everyone, especially Ben for leading the team.
